Gladiolas

Bolivian Peach: Beautiful pale peachy color, ship in late summer. Very Limited....$ 12.00 per corm

Boone: Another of the delicate wild flowery gladiolas. Beautiful pastel blossoms. Spring bloomer. Ship: Aug.-Oct. Limited quantities.........$12.00 per corm

Despite the fact that most gladiolas are of African descent, one of the most beloved and sought after (and hard to find) gladiola in Southern gardens (and beyond) is the Byzantinus gladiolus. Called “corn flag or Jacob’s ladder”, this is a very robust gladiola that can be left in beds year round. Their tall sword-like leaves reach heights of 2 ˝’ to 3’ tall, with the dainty magenta blossoms spiking upwards and over in a graceful curve. These beautiful flowers increase each year by the growth of cormlets at the base of the mother corms. Foliage here in Southeast Texas starts appearing above ground in late Dec.-early Jan., with blooms opening up in April.

Byzantinus gladiolus: (hardy magenta heirloom glad).....$8.00 per corm

Another Southern treasure even more difficult to locate and usually found only with small specialty nurseries, is the True White Byzantine glad, Alba. These beautiful whites open up a week or two earlier than the magenta colored Byzantinus gladiolus.

Byzantinus gladiolus: (hardy white heirloom glad)......$12.00 per corm - Discovered in Texas: clone (Texas Snow Flurry)

Carolina Primrose: A delicate Dalenii type gladiola, spring bloomer, ship in late summer. Very Limited.....$ 12.00 per corm

One of the original and oldest varieties grown in the South is the “Parrot” glad, or Natal lily (G. natalensis), known formerly as G. psittacinus. This is one of the main species used to breed our modern hybrids. It now goes by the name G. Dalenii. The hooded flowers (hence parrot glad) appear on stalks up to 5 ˝’ here in southern Texas, with as many as 12-15 blooms per stalk. These gorgeous plants aren’t particular as to soil conditions, blooming and increasing each year at a tremendous rate. The blossoms are a beautiful clear red-orange and yellow and some varieties set seeds besides increasing by cormlets. Blooming in late April-early May for us in southeast Texas, these tall beauties are a splendid addition to your flower beds.

Dalenii Gladiolus: (parrot/parrot's beak):A beautiful tall (to 5') heirloom Iris that blooms in the spring with bright orange-red/yellow blooms up and down the stalk. Blooms in sun/shade, sets seed and produces cormlets at base of mother corm.  Ship in late summer/early fall (June-Oct)........... $10.00 per corm.

Dalenii-type glad: (lost name tag). Beautiful salmon/orange blossoms in mid/late summer, blooming over an extended time, increases well. Ship in late spring/early summer.................Limited supply....................$ 10.00 per corm

Salmoneus: This is a beautiful salmony-pink wildflowery type gladiola that blooms during the summer and fall, unlike other gladiolas. Several beautiful blooms up and down the bloom stalk. Limited supply.....................$15.00 per corm
